Classification, Labelling and Packaging: the regulation
Do you manufacture or import chemical substances or mixtures? Do you know about the new rules introduced by the CLP (classification, labelling and packaging) Regulation? Major new requirements for classification and labelling and safety data sheets apply from 1st December 2010 - are you ready?
All users of chemicals will be affected by the new rules for the classification and labelling of chemicals. Most affected in the short term will be those companies that place on the market chemical substances as they will need to be (re)classified, (re)labelled, and new safety data sheets (SDS) prepared by 1st December 2010. In addition, manufacturers and importers of substances (on their own and in mixtures) that are placed on the market will need to notify ECHA (the European Chemicals Agency) of the classification and labelling (following the new rules in CLP) of those substances from 1st December 2010. Downstream users will also be affected in the months and years to come.
